The sound is retro but mixed with fancy new-fangled production techniques and imbued with a driving bassline which kicks you in whichever direction it pleases. The track is simple but completely captivating, Leon Bridges’ golden vocals seducing, embracing and pleading with an instrumental which should really be purchased on 7-inch to be slotted with the rest of the classic soul. And I’ll be gosh darned if he didn’t nail every single facet of it with a sweeping cinematic sensibility that should see that famous grin adorning every red carpet from Oxnard to Cannes. Paak, showing the kind of unchecked versatility which is frankly rampant amongst the sickeningly talented artists in our cross-platform age. The video is notable for being directed by soul hip-hop revival sensation Anderson. “Motorbike” flips this and gives us a seemingly straightforward tale of love executed with such perfection even the most embittered cynic might capitulate to their feels. The track is the second single released in preparation for Bridges’ forthcoming album Gold-Diggers Sound, the first being the socially conscious Terrace Martin collaboration “ Sweeter”. I had never shed tears for anyone that I didn’t know, and that moment compelled me to put it out into the world.Texan soul singer Leon Bridges has put in a mid-year contender for track and video combination of 2021 with the mesmerising “Motorbike”. The crazy thing is, this song was already done, and what really compelled me to release it was George Floyd’s death. And I always just wanted the right time to do it, and the right way to say it.

Throughout my career, I’ve been scrutinized for not being political enough. I had been sitting on those lyrics I just didn’t know the right outfit to put them in.

This was my contribution to the movement.
MOTORBIKE LEON BRIDGES FULL
Black folk have been deceived so many years, the only thing that can turn it around is a heart full of love. I truly believe that eyes have been deceiving us for so long but the heart always tells the truth. This is meditation music it is not music for the ears but rather music for the heart. It is always an honor to share a platform with my dear brother Leon Bridges. Just as Abel’s blood was crying out to God, George Floyd is crying out to me. I cannot and will not be silent any longer. So, I present to you “Sweeter.”Ī June 2020 Pitchfork article quoted the artists saying: I am George Floyd, my brothers are George Floyd, and my sisters are George Floyd. It was the first time I wept for a man I never met. The death of George Floyd was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. I have been numb for too long, calloused when it came to the issues of police brutality.
MOTORBIKE LEON BRIDGES HOW TO
From adolescence we are taught how to conduct ourselves when we encounter police to avoid the consequences of being racially profiled. Growing up in Texas I have personally experienced racism, my friends have experienced racism. In a statement released by Pitchfork, Bridges said: Thoughout the song he reflects mournfully on racism against Black people and its effect on Black men specifically. The track was released amidst the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests in the U.S., with Leon Bridges paying tribute to George Floyd’s death by singing from the perspective of a black man taking his last breath. “Sweeter” marks the first collaboration between Leon Bridges and Terrace Martin, who is featured on the saxophone.
